KINETIC DERBY DAY 2025 REGISTRATION
6th Annual Kinetic Derby Day on April 26, 2025 on Meeting Street in the City of West Columbia. The public has spoken, and we listened! This year, we’re excited to introduce a fresh take on our soapbox racing lineup with two refined divisions that reflect our community’s enthusiasm for creativity and inclusivity: Art Cars and Kit Cars. In response to popular demand, Art Cars will now focus exclusively on custom, from-scratch builds, allowing participants to showcase their unique, handcrafted designs. Meanwhile, Kit Cars replaces the former “Need for Speed” division, providing racers with a pre-built frame to personalize with their own creative flair. Each division will be open to the same age groups as in previous years—8-12, 13-17, and adult.
ART CAR SOAPBOX
Art Cars invite participants to fully unleash their creativity by building a custom soapbox car from scratch. This division is perfect for those looking to turn their soapbox into a work of art that captures the magic of Fantasy Worlds. From dragons and enchanted castles to futuristic spaceships, Art Car creators are encouraged to build and decorate their vehicles to tell a story on wheels. This division celebrates individuality and craftsmanship, allowing participants to express their imagination and bring their own fantastical creations to life.
KIT CAR SOAPBOX
Kit Cars offer a different approach, ideal for racers who want to start with a pre-built frame but still add their unique flair. In this division, participants use a pre-assembled car kit as their base, which can then be customized to fit their fantasy-inspired vision. Kit Cars are perfect for those who want to focus on speed and performance while adding decorative touches like mythical symbols, sci-fi elements, or creative themes. This division allows for personalization without needing to build from the ground up, making it accessible to racers of all experience levels.
Kinetic Sculpture
A Kinetic Sculpture is a human-powered, gear-based vehicle that operates without stored energy, motors, or electricity, designed to capture the essence of each year’s unique theme. This year, immerse yourself in Fantasy Worlds and bring to life visions of dragons, castles, knights, or futuristic sci-fi realms through your creative designs.

Perfect for all ages, the Kinetic Sculpture Parade invites the whole family to participate, whether riding or cheering along the way! Travel through the heart of West Columbia’s River District on a parade route with exciting obstacles. A panel of judges will award trophies across multiple categories for the most imaginative entries. Sculptures can be solo creations or team efforts, with groups featuring multiple members on a pedal-powered sculpture, dressed in themed costumes, or with kinetic escorts riding or walking alongside. Join us and turn your family’s fantasy into a shared kinetic adventure!
